The ex-husband of the late businesswoman has been accused of taking grandchildren away from the grandparents and did not allow them to visit the children. Both parties are now fighting for the custody of the children.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the managing director and successor to family-owned business KSP Marketing, Ms. Linda Koh, was found unconscious in her hotel room in Hong Kong while on a business trip. She was taken to the Queen Mary Hospital, but died soon after.
According to the report, Linda and her ex-husband, Mr. Ang, divorced a year back. Since the divorce, the children were taken care of by Linda’s family.
Linda’s younger brother had told Shin Min Daily News that his former brother-in-law had taken the 2 children and did not allow visits from maternal side.
“Two kids have all along been staying with us. However, ever since he picked up the children after school, we have lost contact and the grandparent could not see them.” Said younger brother of Linda.
He also mentioned that Mr. Ang had relocated his 7-year-old nephew from primary school at Woodlands to another primary school at Bedok.
The younger brother of Linda had later confronted Mr. Ang, but he was not willing to compromise.
No Matrimony Given
The younger brother of Linda said: “he is irresponsible, and did not give matrimony fees after the divorce. My sister even gave him another 3 months to make payment. He let his children sleep in the living room.”
They will fight for custody of the children at Family court at the end of the February 2017.
Ex-Husband: I Have The Capacity To Take Care Of My Children
However, according to Mr. Ang, he said he has the capability to take care of the children.
He mentioned to Shin Min Daily News that he is staying in a 4-room flat, and they are sleeping in the bedroom, not living room.
“The family related authority even did a spot check and realised there was no issue with the living conditions.” He said.
As for matrimony, after they are divorced, he paid for 3 months of matrimony but realised he was not able to pay due to a job transition. He discussed with Linda and he agreed to pay every alternate month.
Mr. Ang mentioned that his children and he are in a very good relationship. The children are able to grow up in a better environment being taken care of by their father. He hopes to have a peaceful discussion but they are not willing to.
If There Is A Will
Do you know that when divorcee passes away, in usual case, the ex-spouse, being the biological parent of the child, will be the legal guardian?
If there was a Will properly written, the divorcee can appoint someone he or she trusts to be the joint-guardian with the ex-spouse. There are also many other ways to prevent the ex-spouse from tapping into the assets if proper estate planning is done.
